Mia walked down the hall and towards the family room. Dukee walked out of his bedroom and saw Mia.
“What’s wrong Mia?” Dukee asked her.
Mia stopped in front of the empty entertainment center and said, “I’m worried about my mom. Is she coming home?”
Dukee walked over to the rug not far from her and said. “she will be home soon. I don’t know what a hospital is but you heard my mom say that she is doing good.”
Mia looked at Dukee and replied, “If she is doing good then why isn’t she home?”
“Maybe she didn’t feel well so she has to stay awhile,” Dukee said.
“She didn’t feel good the night she left. I tried to get her mind off whatever it was but I guess it didn’t work,” Mia said.
“See, that’s what she is doing then, she’s trying to feel better,” Dukee said.
“So do you think she will be home today?” Mia asked.
“We will only know when my mom gets back later. Don’t worry Mia your momma is going to be better then before,” Dukee said to try and cheer Mia up.
Mia turned her head and said, “I sure hope so. I might be a pain sometimes but I love my mom.”
Mia continued toward her bedroom and walked in. Dukee felt bad for Mia because there has been some different things happening around the house lately. All this packing going on and furniture moving and leaving.
Dukee thought for a moment and then called out to Mia, “do you want to watch squirrels with me? I have been seeing more lizards on the window lately.”
Mia replied a few seconds later, “no, you go ahead, maybe later.”
“Oh okay,” Dukee said and then went to the front living room.
Dukee stopped by the front door and peeked out the narrow window, “I see lizards on the porch,” Dukee called out.
There was no reply from Mia so Dukee jumped up onto the side table and walked to the other end of it. He looked out the window and saw two squirrels already in the grass. He hopped down onto the blanket and meowed at them.
Only a minute or so later Dukee was startled by Mia’s voice.
“Wow, that is a big lizard,” Mia said while she looked out the narrow window by the door.
“You startled me,” Dukee said.
Mia giggled, “sorry. I figured that I would rather watch lizards with you then be sad in my room.”
“Oh, I am honored to be in your presence my princess,” Dukee said.
“Ha ha very funny,” Mia said.
They both giggled a little before it went silent again. Dukee was happy that Mia came out of her room, even if it would only be for a little while. All in all, Mia and Dukee are doing good and Mia’s Mom is doing better. Until next week, Mia wants to remind you to cherish the ones you love.
