Mia stood in the hallway on a tote and peeked in on Dukee. Dukee was laying near his scratch board while facing his bedroom doorway.
“Are you feeling better?” Mia asked him.
“Yes, some. I'm happy that I can eat again,” Dukee said.
“What happened to you?” Mia asked him.
Dukee stood up and arched his back for a deep stretch and then replied, “I'm not real sure. My mouth started bothering me. Then my mom took me to a strange place where they gave me some yucky tasting stuff.”
“Did Auntie give you that stuff here too?” Mia asked.
“Yes and I was not happy with her because of it,” Dukee said.
“Yes, I could tell. I've never heard you growl and hiss before,” Mia said.
“I just hope she doesn't give me anymore of that stuff,” Dukee said as he walked a little closer to Mia.
All of a sudden, Mia hissed at Dukee. Dukee quickly stopped and stared at Mia.
“Oh sorry, my assertive instincts kicked in. You have been sick and hiding so I sort of took over here,” Mia explained.
Dukee snickered and sat down about two feet from Mia, “I understand. We are family though.”
“I know. I'm just an independent female,” Mia replied.
Mia turned around and hopped down off the tote. She walked back into her room while Dukee got up and walked into the living room. He trotted over to the sliding glass door when he saw a bird land on the bird feeder. Dukee knew though that his mom has been limiting his time out on the screened porch since he got sick. So, he did not ask to go out this time.
Mia went into her mom's bathroom and laid down in the shower. She stretched out her two front legs and thought, this is a cat's life. It’s time for my morning nap.
Dukee is feeling better but the steroids gave him runny pooh. So, I have to keep an eye on that and make sure that he is drinking plenty of water. Until next week, Mia and Dukee hope that you all stay healthy and hydrated.
So glad Dukee is feeling better. We had a fur baby that got rodent ulcers in his mouth. Trying to get the medicine into him was not a fun chore. Lucky he recovered didn't need to lose any choppers. They don't understand we are trying to get them back to a healthy state. We have three now that tell us all the time we are not allowed to pick them up, brush them or touch them anywhere except top of their head, under their chin or on their cheeks.
Hahaha ! I love this story and writing about Dukee and Mia's
true selves.
