This summer it has been very hot and Dukee and Mia feel it as well. Dukee doesn’t want to go out on the screened porch as much, and the two of them tend to sleep more. But there are times when Mia insists that her Mom needs to get out of bed.
Good morning Mom, Mia thought while she tapped her sleeping mom on the shoulder. Her mom slowly opened her eyes and then looked back at Mia. Mom asked Mia what she wanted but then Mia walked away. Mom rolled back to her side and listened for Mia but she didn’t hear anything. Mom wondered why Mia was so quiet so she looked toward the foot of the bed. Mom couldn’t help but giggle when she saw Mia looking at her upside down.
“You silly girl,” Mom said to her.
Dukee roamed around the house and then looked out the front window. He watched and chattered at a few birds before they flew away. He also saw a green gecko on the screen of the front porch. It looked like it caught something to eat. I guess it got a snack, Dukee thought. When the lizard finished eating, it scurried around the front of the screen and out of sight from Dukee. So, Dukee looked up into the sky but didn’t see anymore birds. He looked down into the flower bed but didn’t see anything there.
“I guess it’s still too early for any other critters,” Dukee said.
So, Dukee turned around and decided to just lay down on the side table.
“I’ll just take a short nap here and then maybe other critters will be up when I wake up,” Dukee said and stretched out.
While Dukee closed his eyes in the front living room, Mia decided to nap too since her mom wasn’t getting up yet.
Until next time, Dukee and Mia want to wish all of you a great week and warn you to stay cool and hydrated.
