Mia was sitting on the bottom shelf of the side table when Dukee walked up near her.
“Are you waiting for your mom?” Dukee asked.
“Yes, she went somewhere. She said that she would see me later, but it’s already later… isn’t it?” Mia said and looked out the narrow window.
“It hasn’t been that long yet. She has been gone longer before,” Dukee walked over to the other narrow window.
Dukee could tell that Mia missed her mom already so he looked around for a critter outside to take her mind off of it.
“Look up at the top of the screen, there’s a lizard sitting there,” Dukee said.
“Yes, I saw it already. It’s been there for a while now. I think it’s sleeping,” Mia said.
“Sleeping up there? You would think it would lose it’s grip and fall,” Dukee watched the lizard.
“Yes, you would think so. I’m only guessing that it’s sleeping because it hasn’t moved,” Mia said.
Mia then hopped down off of the shelf, walked a few feet away and laid down. She rolled onto her side and stretched her whole body out. Dukee looked back at her and saw her just lying there.
“She’ll be home later, our humans usually come back,” Dukee said as he walked over to the bench.
“I know… I guess I’m just bored,” Mia said as she rolled over onto her back.
Dukee jumped up onto the bench and looked into the flower bed.
“Hey look, there’s a blue jay bird out there,” Dukee said.
“Oh yeah? I see them every once in a while,” Mia said.
“Yeah, me too. I just hadn’t seen one in a while,” Dukee looked back at Mia but she still laid on the floor.
After a few minutes went by, Mia got up and started to talk and play with her baby Lamb-chop. Dukee watched Mia briefly but then looked back out the window. He liked seeing Mia play but the critters outside were more interesting this time. Mia picked up her Lamb-chop with her mouth and meowed as she looked around. She then carried Lamb-chop down the hallway and into the family room. Mia meowed again and then went into her bedroom.
Dukee laid down on the bench and just looked for more critters to watch. But when he heard Auntie in the family room, Dukee got up to see what she was doing. He walked through the kitchen and saw her sit down on the chaise lounge chair. Oh good, she can let me out on the back porch, Dukee thought. As Dukee walked over to the sliding door, Auntie saw Dukee and got back up. She knew what he was wanting and let him out. After all, it was a beautiful day outside.
