It was almost 7 am when Dukee meowed very loudly. Mia heard him from all the way in her bedroom while he was in the front of the house. Dukee hopped down from the bench by the window and walked through the kitchen. Just before he stepped into the family room, he was surprised by Mia.
“Boo,” Mia pounced at Dukee and then ran into the cardboard barn.
“Hey, you scared me,” Dukee said.
“Shh, everyone’s still sleeping,” Mia said from within the barn.
“Well, you shouldn’t have scared me,” Dukee whispered.
“What were you meowing at before?” Mia asked.
“Oh, another cat that I saw across the street,” Dukee said.
“What did it look like?” Mia asked.
“It sort of looked like me only lighter in color,” Dukee sat down on the rug near the barn.
“Oh yeah, I think I’ve seen that one,” Mia said as she stepped out of the barn.
As Mia walked around to the other side of the barn, Dukee looked to see where she was going.
“Don’t you want to play?” Dukee whispered.
“Not right now, I think I hear my mom moving around in our bedroom,” Mia said while she walked to her room.
Dukee turned around and laid down by the cardboard barn. Only a few minutes passed when suddenly Mia ran out of her bedroom and down the hallway. Dukee quickly looked and wondered what she was doing. Suddenly, Mia ran back down the hall and right past Dukee and the barn. It must be breakfast time for her, Dukee thought. A minute later Mia and her mom walked passed Dukee and into the kitchen. Mia patiently waited for her mom to scoop some food into her breakfast bowl. Dukee sniffed the air where he laid and thought, some breakfast right now does sound good.
So, Dukee got up and walked into his and Auntie’s bedroom. She was just getting up when she saw him. She said good morning to him and then walked over to the desk. Dukee jumped up onto the desk and waited for his dehydrated chicken. Mia and her mom headed back into their room with Mia’s breakfast. After Mom set the bowl down on the floor, Mia sniffed the food and licked away. Mmmm, this tastes good this morning, Mia thought.
Dukee also enjoyed his breakfast which would keep him content for a while. He then wanted to see what the weather was like outside so, Auntie let him out onto the back screened porch. He looked into the back yard and sniffed the air, but it was a little chilly outside so Dukee didn’t want to stay out to long.
Auntie let Dukee back inside and they went back into their bedroom. Dukee then munched on a few kernels of his dry food and then jumped up onto the bed by his mom. She didn't have to go to work just yet so it was cuddle time for Dukee. Dukee laid down and enjoyed some neck and chin rubbing from his mom.
All of a sudden, they both heard a bang on the other side of the wall, and then Mia running out of her bedroom and down the hall. Mia had a good breakfast, was happy, and was ready to play even if her mom wasn't ready. That’s the thing when you have a cat in your life, they make sure that you do what they want, when they want it and not the other way around.
Well until next time, Mia and Dukee want to wish you a happy week.
