“Happy Easter,” Dukee walked down the hall to Mia.
Mia giggled, “you look silly with those extra ears on,”
“What, I have extra ears?” Dukee cocked his head and looked up, “how many ears do I have?”
Mia giggled again, “don’t be silly, you have four ears because of that thing you’re wearing.”
“Oh, the bunny ears. That’s right, I forgot that Auntie put them on me,” Dukee snickered.
Dukee peeked into the Easter basket and then walked past Mia and over to the side table. He jumped up onto it, walked down to the end of the table, and looked outside. Mia trotted over to the kitty tower and jumped up onto it. She squeezed in between the cube and post and sat down.
“I wonder why bunnies don’t come into our yard? Wouldn’t it be fun to see a bunny right outside our window?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Maybe if your Mom and Auntie put food for them outside then maybe they would come,” Dukee said.
“I wonder what they eat?” Mia asked.
“Well, the only thing I see that one up the road nibble on is the grass. So maybe they are vegetarians,” Dukee said.
“Vegetarians? What is that?” Mia asked.
“They mostly eat vegetables like broccoli and carrots,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Oh, I don’t care for those,” Mia said.
“Yes, me neither, but they are good for you. So I’ve been told anyway,” Dukee said and looked back out the window.
“Doesn’t the celebration of Easter also involve God?” Mia asked.
Dukee watched a butterfly land on the flower in the flower bed and said, “yes, and his son Jesus. Auntie said that Jesus died to save the human soul.”
“But why” Mia asked and looked at Dukee.
“Well, you know how some humans can do bad things?” Dukee asked.
“Yes?” Mia said.
“Well, I guess in order to forgive and bless the humans, Jesus died for them so they would have another chance,” Dukee licked the top of his front right paw.
“But isn’t there still bad humans out there?” Mia asked.
“Yes, but God will tend to them at another time,” Dukee said.
Mia looked back out the window and thought about how blessed she feels to have a human as good as her mom. She then watched the butterfly as it flew up past the window and then glanced at Dukee.
“When Jesus died for the humans, does that mean that the good humans are blessed more?” Mia asked.
Dukee looked at Mia and thought, “I don’t know, maybe.”
As the weather outside here looks gloomy, it doesn’t mean that we haven’t been blessed. We are thankful to God and Jesus for always giving us blessings no matter how big or small they might be. Mia and Dukee are grateful for who and what they are blessed with also. If all humans were as grateful for what God has done for them, this world would be a happier place. Enjoy your day everyone.
