While Dukee was sitting by the back sliding glass door, Mia crept up on him.
“What ya doing?” Mia asked.
Dukee sat and glanced at the trees in the backyard and then said, “I wish it was warmer out there. I miss laying out on the porch for hours.”
“It will get warmer again, and then you can do that,” Mia said as she looked at Dukee.
“I know, but for now, I’m just bored,” Dukee said as he glanced at Mia.
“Well, Auntie tries to play with you when she’s not working. I know because she tries to play with me too,” Mia said.
“I know, but I get bored with that too,” Dukee said.
Mia tried to think of a way to cheer Dukee up. They both sat there quietly and looked out the glass door until Mia did what she did. Quickly, Mia swatted Dukee on the back side and ran toward the kitchen.
“Hey, what was that for?” Dukee said as he ran after Mia.
Mia ran through the kitchen, into the dining area, around the table and toward the hallway. Dukee caught up to Mia fairly quickly until she did a quick turn right and back into the kitchen through the other doorway. Dukee continued to run into the family room, and slowed down around the cardboard barn. He then casually walked back down the hallway to the front of the house and glanced around for Mia.
“I know that you are in here somewhere,” Dukee said.
Mia was hiding on the floor at front side of the leather sofa. She quietly giggled as she heard Dukee walk along the back side of the sofa. He jumped up onto the side table and looked toward Mia’s food and water dishes but didn’t see her. He then hopped down onto her litter box cabinet and slowly made his way to the coffee table. Mia glanced at Dukee and then crept over to the front of the bean bag chair. When Mia turned around, her tail hit the brown paper.
Dukee quickly looked back while Mia sat completely still.
“Where are you? I know that I heard you,” Dukee said as he stepped up onto the kitty tower.
Mia couldn’t help herself. She giggled and said, “I’m right here.”
Dukee walked onto the litter box cabinet again and looked at Mia, “oh, I didn’t think that you left this room.”
Mia laid down and looked at Dukee, “there, did you have some fun?”
“I did actually, thank you,” Dukee said.
“You’re welcome. I can understand the not knowing what to do sometimes. Maybe that’s why I get grumpy some of the time,” Mia said.
“You mean because you’re bored you get grumpy?” Dukee asked.
“I think so sometimes. Other times I just want space to myself,” Mia said and then stretched her body out.
“Yes, quiet time is nice especially if I’m tired,” Dukee said.
Mia then got up, walked over to the kitty tower, and jumped up onto it. Dukee turned around, laid down on the blanket, and looked out the window. Mia climbed up into the tunnel part of the kitty tower and got comfortable.
“Maybe some birds will come over here,” Mia said.
“Yes, maybe, if it’s warm enough for them,” Dukee said.
See, it’s not just us humans that get antsy and bored, animals do too. So, it’s up to us to help entertain our furry friends when we can. The interaction with them will be beneficial to all of us.
