Mia ran down the hallway and into the front living room. Dukee walked into the hallway to see what she was up to. He quietly crept toward the living room and peeked around the corner. Mia was laying on top of her litter box cabinet and chattering at a lizard. Dukee crept into the living room, jumped up onto the arm of the leather sofa, and startled Mia.
“What are you doing?” Mia jumped and looked back at Dukee.
“Did I scare you?” Dukee snickered.
“Yes you did, and I think you scared my lizard away,” Mia said and looked back at the window.
Dukee looked past Mia and at the window, “there it is, I saw it,”
Mia looked around the window frame and saw the lizard peeking down at her.
“Did you find it?” Dukee asked while he sat down.
“Yep, there it is,” Mia said.
Dukee watched Mia while she looked up at the lizard. She softly meowed and then chattered at it. The lizard then dropped down to the bottom of the outside window sill.
“Did you see that?” Mia asked Dukee.
“Yeah, I can’t believe that they don’t hurt themselves when they fall that far,” Dukee said.
“I know. But maybe they are made like us cats and are flexible,” Mia watched for the lizard to come back up.
Dukee then walked across the sofa and hopped up onto the side table. He sat down and then looked out the window. Mia sat on the window sill and waited while Dukee watched a large vulture fly over.
“I heard that your Mom went somewhere huh?” Dukee asked.
“Oh, yeah. She said that she wouldn’t be gone too long though. I see that Auntie is home today huh?” Mia said.
“Yep and she’s moving things around in our room,” Dukee said.
“Oh, I wonder why?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“It’s been a while since she has that’s all I know,” Dukee said and licked his front paw.
“Oh, okay. Hey, the lizard is back,” Mia whispered.
Mia turned, stepped onto the kitty tower, and then quickly turned to face the window again. She sat down on the base between the cube and the post. Mia and Dukee watched as the lizard scurried up the screen and then clung to the window pane. It then turned and faced downward as if it was watching for something else to eat.
“Have you seen a frog lately?” Dukee asked.
“Yes, almost every night I see one on the outside of this window,” Mia glanced around.
“Oh, well, maybe I can look for it with you tonight?” Dukee asked Mia.
“Yeah, maybe,” Mia said.
Just then Mia’s Mom drove into the driveway and parked her car.
“Oh, my Mom’s home,” Mia hopped down and trotted over to the front door.
Dukee got up, turned around, and walked to the other end of the side table. The two of them then waited for Mia’s Mom to come to the door. But before she could, Dukee heard Auntie make a familiar sound in the other room.
“I’ll see you later. I think my mom has a treat bag in her hands,” Dukee hopped down and trotted to his bedroom.
“Treats? Maybe that’s what my Mom went to get,” Mia watched out the narrow window by the door.
For all you pet owners out there, I bet your pet knows when treats are in the house. Mia and Dukee hope that you all have a great weekend.
They hear out the treats more than sniffing them out, ha ha ha.
