The Cage

Short story/poem

dark small cage

Locked inside this basket of bars

it’s creepy, dark and cool.

The distant screams of other

people are occasionally heard

then muffled.

How did I get here and who did this?

I feel a presence but can not see.

Who is in this cage with me?

What is that? I scream and fall back.

The soft touch from something

furry.

Help me. Let me out of here,

I yell through the bars.

I see a bright light coming this way.

Please let me out of here I say.

The light gets closer and I can finally

see.

What is this thing that's touching me?

I turn and look and scream with fear.

No, help me, help me get out of here.

I am doused with webbing and spun

like bug.

This furry giant arachnid is ready to

be fed.

I feel myself trembling but can't even

move.

Is this what my life has come to?

I wiggle and fight with all my might to

hopefully avoid that bite.

I feel the web stretching as I move my

arms.

I can do this and do it right.

I push and stretch the web away

as the person comes my way.

Please help me sir I beg of you please

let me out of here.

As I get free from the strong white

web the arachnid backs away.

The gentleman points at my chest

I look down and what I see.

All this time I had the power to

unlock this and be free.

I take the key from around my neck

and rush over to the lock.

Farewell my fear for I am gone,

this is one life that you will not stop.
