While officer Jons was on the phone with the frantic lady, officer Barkley walked in.
“Ma'am, I'm sending an officer down to you right now… Stay in your car and watch for the patrol car,” officer Jons said.
Jons told officer Barkley what the lady told him and asked if he would go down to the beach near the pier and talk with the lady.
“How many of these creatures do you think there are out there?” Barkley asked.
“I don't know, but it doesn't sound like it’s the big one that attacked officer Benjamin.”
Barkley grabbed his car's keys and headed down to the beach to talk to the lady. Officer Jackson walked into the station singing “A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin.
Officer Jons looked up from his paper to see who was singing, “Good morning.”
“Good morning,” Jackson smiled. “We never officially met… I’m Marlene Jackson,” she reached out her hand.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Joseph Jons.”
The two of them talked about what had happened on the beach the night before. Officer Jackson said that she transferred to that precinct to live closer to the beach, but she didn’t expect to be on a wild creature hunt or patrol. Jons explained how they captured the first one and was looking forward to doing it again.
Officer Barkley had parked at the pier and walked over to a car with a woman sitting inside. He tapped on the window and the lady rolled it down. She explained that when she was jogging on the beach and went through under the pier, the creature scurried out of the shallow water and chased her. She said that she was able to get away because it stopped and turned back around.
“I have never been so scared in my life,” the lady said.
