Two weeks had gone by since sheriff Brown and his team captured and killed the beast that was terrorizing his town. Everything seemed to be back to normal until a call came in.
“Sheriff, we found a mutilated dog down here on the pier.” Officer Reese said.
“Okay, give me ten minutes.” Sheriff Brown looked at his watch.
It was around 7:30 am and a fisherman out on the pier found the dog and called it in. He knew because of the other attacks that had happened that he should report it.
The sheriff arrived about ten minutes later with a shovel and a large cardboard box. He knelt down and looked at the poor animal with sadness, but noticed something familiar.
“Scales.” Sheriff Brown said.
“Yes, fishermen catch fish here.” Officer Reese said.
“No, these aren’t from any regular fish.” The sheriff stood up.
Sheriff Brown looked around the area of the pier and asked officer Reese to take care of the animal for him because he had a call to make. He walked toward the road and called marine biologist, Joseph Gunn but only got his voicemail.
“Joe, this is sheriff Brown, please call me as soon as you get this.”
The sheriff paused for a moment and thought, this couldn’t be possible.
He walked back to his car and headed for the police station. Officer Reese scooped up the dog with the shovel and gently laid it in the box.
“What do you think did that?” The fisherman gazed at the dog.
“I don’t know sir, but I wouldn’t worry about it.” Officer Reese looked at the man. “Thanks for calling it in though.”
“I saw something like this before, where I used to live.” The fisherman said.
“Well, I’m sure it’s nothing.” Officer Reese laid the shovel on top and picked up the box. “You have a nice day sir.”
“I’m sure I’ll see you again officer.” The fisherman watched her walk away.
Officer Reese left the pier with the dog and headed to the station. Sheriff Brown finally heard back from Mr. Gunn, and Gunn said that he would be on his way soon.
Meanwhile, the rest of the community started their morning like usual. Businesses opened, tourists came and spent their money, and enjoyed the beautiful Flag beach. Sheriff Brown did not want to even think of another creature being in the area. But the same kind of scales on the dog was too much of a coincidence.
