The plan was if the creature wasn’t killed, they would take it to the zoo in Sanford Florida which is about an hour and a half away. The zoo would house this creature in a cage with a pool behind the scenes and monitor it. Marine biologist Mr. Gunn was of course very excited that he could observe and study it. So sheriff Brown called the zoo and let them know that they have the creature alive and that they were on their way down.
“This is going to be great! Learning about a new species has got to be the best thing about my line of work.” Mr. Gunn smiled. “I will see you later Sheriff… And thanks for not killing it.”
“Trust me, it’s not that I didn’t want to.” Sheriff Brown shook Mr. Gunn’s hand.
Sheriff Brown glanced at the creature lying still in the trailer and then hopped up into the truck. Officer Benjamin was going to ride with the sheriff and have a tranquilizer ready.
“Will you go back to the station and make sure everything else is going smooth?” Sheriff Brown asked Officer Jons.
“Sure Sheriff, no problem.” Officer Jons stepped back from the truck.
The quickest route would be I95 to I4 but sheriff Brown didn’t want to take the chance of going 70 miles per hour with this thing riding in the trailer. So he planned to take Highway 1 to 44 and then 17 into Sanford. There will be more residential area but it will be late at night so there shouldn’t be too much activity.
“I sure hope that thing stays asleep.” Sheriff Brown glanced in the rearview mirror.
“It should, I used enough Domosedan to put down a horse.” Officer Benjamin said.
“Well, it has already been under, over an hour so do you think we should give it another?” Sheriff Brown asked.
“No, I think we should be able to make it there without it waking up.” Officer Benjamin looked back.
The sheriff was right, and so far the trip was pretty quiet. No traffic except for an occasional car. They turned onto 44 by New Smyrna and headed west toward Deland. Sheriff Brown glanced in the rearview mirror and didn’t see any movement in the trailer. They continued on 44 and it was a lot of lands and a lot of trees. Officer Benjamin was talking about his little boy, when sheriff Brown felt a different movement in the steering wheel.
“Hold on.” The sheriff said.
“What is it?” Officer Benjamin looked at the sheriff.
“I feel extra movement. I have to pull over.” Sheriff Brown held the steering wheel tight.
“There’s a side road right up there.” Officer Benjamin pointed.
The sheriff slowed down and pulled off onto the unfinished road. The road went alongside a large pond and stopped. There were also a dense amount of trees all around the area. They got out of the truck and walked back to the trailer. There they saw the creature was struggling to get up. They didn’t know it, but it had been wiggling the ropes off while they were on the road.
“Shoot it!” Sheriff Brown yelled.
Officer Benjamin took the shot but the rifle jammed. The sheriff pulled out his gun and took a shot, but by that time the creature jumped off the trailer. Officer Benjamin unjammed the rifle and took another shot but missed. Sheriff Brown also took another shot and saw the creature fall.
“I got it!” Sheriff Brown started to walk toward it.
“Wait, it’s still moving.” Officer Benjamin reloaded the rifle.
Just then, the creature got back up on its feet, looked back at the men, and darted off into the trees. They ran toward the trees and didn’t see anything, It was so dark.
“What are we going to do now?” Officer Benjamin dropped the rifle down to his side.
“There’s nothing we can do right now because it’s so dark. Besides, I know I wounded it, so I’m sure it’s going to die.”
“You wanted it dead all along didn’t you?” Officer Benjamin asked.
“Well, that thing killed a couple of people, so yes I did. But I also respect the idea of scientific study in our world.” The sheriff turned to walk back to the truck.
Thank you so much for joining me with the writing of this story. I really hope that you enjoyed it. I will be starting a new story probably tomorrow with the thoughts of children in mind. Please show your love and share. Thanks again,
Sincerely, Pennie
Wait, this doesn't seem like a conclusion to me. It's more of a cliff hanger. Are you planning to write another one about this? I know it must be hard but please keep it going at least until they have proof it's really dead. And I am looking forward to the children's books too.
