As August winds down and the hard summer heat softens, there is only one word to describe it, Autumn. The color of the leaves start to change in some areas more then others. The humidity starts to dry up just a bit. And people start to think about the up and coming holidays…
Remember the scents of holidays baking and cooking that permeates throughout the house? The sugary smells of special cookies and the pumpkin spice for pies? Then the prepping of holiday gatherings. With who and where to go. For women, so much thought is put into family and friend functions. The perfect food, the perfect table settings. The special gifts and the fun festivities.
But why? Why do women do all this? Why do women spend so much of their free time in the kitchen, cleaning and baking? Cleaning and cooking? Cleaning and preparing? Because they feel the spirit of joy and happiness. The feelings that come during this time of year that make almost everyone a little more happier. Women especially feel this and want to spread that feeling to friends and family.
What better way to do that then to have a house full of family. Everyone of course does their holidays differently but it is the togetherness that is most important. Yes, Autumn decorations are fun and colorful. And then the thought of decorating an early Christmas tree. But why rush the holidays like the stores do? Enjoy the changes, the colors, the temperatures and the various people and food. Life goes by so fast already. Slow down and grab onto each day as if tomorrow isn’t promised.
When you step outside, notice the temperature changes. Look at the trees and flowers. Do you see or feel the subtle changes? You might even notice a difference of visiting birds in your area. Some birds enjoy the cooler weather and some prefer the warmth and leave for a few months. I don’t have an answer as to why the last four months of the year feel more special, but they just do. And as you get older, you respect that time more too.
As summer comes to a close and Autumn falls upon us, you don’t need to go overboard with everything either. Simple gestures of kindness can go a long way. No big gifts or fancy meals are expected. Just show people how easy it is to be nice and supportive. Hand out a box of homemade cookies, or candy. Smile and wish them a great day. Keep it small and simple. And don’t forget the animals in our world either. They deserve our love and respect as well.
So, as you enter into the last part of 2024, be proud of what you have done so far this year. Some of us put our thoughts of others first, but you also deserve recognition. You deserve a pat on the back too for making it this far in life. Enjoy the season’s, enjoy the holidays, but most importantly, enjoy each other every day.
