On a cool October night, Jennifer and her boyfriend John walked into the Halloween dance at school. Carved pumpkins and plastic skeletons were displayed throughout the gymnasium. As well as orange and black light strings that hung from the ceiling. Cakes and other goodies cluttered buffet tables, along with cans of soda and various juices.
“This is amazing,” Jennifer glanced all around.
Jennifer saw her best friend Natalie across the room and pulled John by the hand through the crowded dance floor.
Jennifer hugged Natalie, “Isn’t this great?”
“Yes, it is and I love your dress,” Natalie said.
John sat down at the table and talked with his friend and Natalie’s boyfriend Gary. Jennifer and Natalie hurried over to the buffet table for some juice and gossip. Their friends Amy and Jess were already there talking about the cute new guy. A group of guys was standing off to one side of the dance floor and whispering about Beth the “ugly duckling” as they call her.
“I don’t know why she bothers to come to the dances. It’s not like any of us find her attractive,” one of the guys whispered to his friends.
“I kind of admire her for not giving up though,” another guy said.
At the buffet table, the girls giggled and watched how Beth danced around by herself on the dance floor. They observed how Beth’s orange cardigan fit snugly over her hips, and her brown knee-length skirt flared out as she twirled around in a circle. Beth didn’t seem to let the pointing and laughing from anyone bother her though. She just enjoyed the beat of the music that was playing.
About ten minutes passed when John and Gary got up from the table. John motioned to Jennifer that he and Gary were going to go outside. As the guys walked out the door, Chris, the new guy at school walked in. Many of the girls in school have a strong attraction to Chris because he’s about six foot tall, thin, blonde, and very cute. Tonight he catches the eyes of everyone by wearing a black long-sleeved button-down shirt with a red tie and black slacks.
“Look who just walked in,” Natalie nudged Jennifer.
Jennifer looked and watched as Chris sauntered across the dance floor toward them. When he walked up to the table and reached for a can of Mountain Dew, Chris smiled at her and Natalie. Without saying a word to them, Chris popped open the can top and takes a drink. Amy and Jess started to fawn over Chris as he turned around and scanned the room. Jennifer didn’t usually want to have anything to do with Chris, but tonight she feels differently. She walked around the table and fed Chris a small cookie.
During one of her twirls, Beth looked and nodded at Chris. One by one all the girls at the dance stopped what they were doing and walked over to Chris. Whether they had a boyfriend or not, the girls were entranced by him. All the other guys were confused as they watched their dates gather around the new guy. Upset about losing his date to another guy, one of them walked up to Chris to confront him.
“What do you think you’re doing here?” The guy asked.
Not even lifting a hand, Chris managed to push the other guy down to the floor. One of John’s friends ran outside quickly to tell him about Chris and the girls. As John and Gary walked back inside, the guy on the floor got up and trotted away. John and Gary stood across the room and observed all the girls standing with and behind Chris. Many of the other guys gathered around behind John and Gary as they wondered what was going on.
“Jennifer, what are you doing?” John called out.
Jennifer smiled and rested her cheek against Chris’s arm.
“Nat, what’s going on?” Gary yelled across the room to his girlfriend.
Chris smiled, “sorry fellas but your girls are mine now.”
John and Gary looked at each other and walked toward Chris. Some of the other guys followed until the girls stepped out in front of Chris. All the guys stopped except John as he walked up to Jennifer standing in front.
John grabbed her hand, “Jen, come on let’s go,”
Jennifer looked John in the eyes and shook his hand off of hers, “no.”
Stunned, John stared at Jennifer and then stepped back as he saw her fangs protrude from her smile. Before he knew it, all the girls rushed and attacked the other guys at the dance. John stood in shock as he saw his friend Gary being mauled and bitten by Natalie. Chris stepped forward and kissed Jennifer on the cheek. John watched and wondered what he should do. It was a matter of seconds before Chris attacked John and ripped open his neck. When Chris had his fill of John’s oozing blood, he called Jennifer in to feed on her old boyfriend.
The music still filled the gymnasium and Beth was still dancing while the male bodies of her schoolmates now lay dead and silent on the floor. Chris picked up a napkin from the buffet table and wiped his mouth. Feeling proud, he observed the blood splatter and pieces of flesh everywhere on the gym floor. All the girls, now covered in blood and wiping their mouths looked to Chris for further guidance. When Beth danced her way out the gymnasium door, then Chris motioned for all the girls to follow him. Arm and arm Chris and Jennifer led them all to their new life in the hills.
The End.
