Shrimp And Tigers First Adventure
After breakfast, Momma took Shrimp and Tiger out of the tree for their first adventure. Both kittens were excited to see something new as they followed her into the soft grass. Momma walked towards a flower bed full of white and yellow daisies. Tiger hopped up at a butterfly that flew over them on its way to the flowers. Shrimp looked around and watched everything that moved on the ground and in the air.
“This is beautiful,” Shrimp said when they stopped at the flower bed.
Tiger hopped up two more times trying to catch a butterfly. Momma was happy to see her new kittens enjoying themselves so far. Out of the flower bed crawled a furry caterpillar. Shrimp watched the caterpillar as it bumped into her paw and turned.
“It’s furry like me,” Shrimp lifted her paw to let it pass.
Momma meowed at her kittens and walked past the flower bed. Tiger trotted up beside her while Shrimp took her time. Tiger saw a large pond ahead of them where dragonflies were flying over it and frogs were croaking in it. Shrimp heard the frogs too and asked where that sound was coming from.
“Those are frogs, my dear. That’s the way they talk to each other,” Momma said.
“Oh, okay,” Shrimp ran up behind Tiger and bumped him close to the edge of the water.
“Hey, watch it,” Tiger growled.
Shrimp giggled and walked around him. Carefully, she walked up to the edge of the water and sniffed it. Tiger was about to push Shrimp into the pond until Momma spoke up.
“Away from the water you two. I don’t think that either one of you wants to get wet,” Momma said.
Tiger ran away from the pond and out into the grass. Shrimp followed him and also jumped into the air.
“This is fun,” Shrimp yelled.
Butterflies were fluttering above in the air, while birds flew even higher across the sky.
Shrimp saw a fuzzy bee as it buzzed around her head, “what is this Momma?”
“That’s a bumble bee dear. Don’t swat at it, it has important work to do,” Momma said.
Shrimp ducked under the buzzing bee and trotted away from it, “what kind of work does it do?”
Momma explained to both Shrimp and Tiger that a bee helps make the flowers keep growing, and without plants and flowers our world wouldn’t be this beautiful. Shrimp then hopped and trotted in front of Tiger as if she was leading the way.
“Where are we going anyways,” Tiger asked.
Momma trotted alongside Tiger, “do you see that big red barn?
“Yes,” Tiger said.
“Well, that’s where we are going,” Momma trotted faster.
Shrimp had the feeling all along that, that was where they were headed. Momma ran way ahead of Shrimp and stopped just before the barn door. Shrimp and Tiger stopped behind Momma once they caught up to her. Momma looked around and listened carefully. All seemed pretty quiet at the moment. Shrimp and Tiger slowly walked, following their mom into the barn. Momma turned the corner and slipped under a board that was part of a fenced-in stall. Shrimp and Tiger stopped and looked into the stall before going inside.
They saw their mom drinking from a big bowl that was in there. After that, Momma moved on to another big bowl and started crunching on some dry food. Curious, Shrimp looked at Tiger and then ducked under the board. She looked into the big bowl and stuck her tongue out as her Momma did. Shrimp tasted the water but it had no taste. Shrimp licked more of the water and realized that she no longer felt thirsty.
Tiger watched his little sister and figured that if she can do that, then he can too. He ducked under the board and walked up to the big bowl in the stall. Shrimp watched as Tiger stuck his face into the clear water. Quickly Tiger pulled his head away and sneezed.
Shrimp giggled, “you’re not supposed to put your whole face in it.”
Tiger growled at her and then tried it again. This time he stuck his tongue out and slowly moved his head close to the water.
“Hey, this isn’t too bad,” Tiger licked some more of the water.
Shrimp walked over to the other big bowl and looked at the pile of brown-colored kernels that lay in it. Momma watched her kittens as they explored the bowls. Shrimp waited for Tiger to finish at the water bowl before trying the food. When he walked over to the food bowl, he looked inside it.
“Are we supposed to eat that?” Tiger looked at Shrimp.
“Momma did, so I guess so,” Shrimp said.
Momma laid down on the straw in the corner of the stall and watched and waited for her kittens to finish. Shrimp stretched her neck over the bowl, and opened her mouth. With her tongue, she grabbed one kernel. Tiger watched his sister's reaction as she chewed the kernel of food.
“Well?” He said.
“It’s not too bad,” Shrimp licked her mouth.
Shrimp let Tiger try some food before she went in for another bite. Tiger crunched his first kernel and then went in for more. The kittens ate a couple of mouthfuls each and then trotted over to their mom.
“That was pretty tasty,” Tiger licked around his mouth.
“Now, when you feel hungry or thirsty, farmer Joe usually has these bowls here for us,” Momma said.
“Well, that’s very thoughtful of him,” Shrimp laid down.
With full happy bellies, Tiger and Shrimp cuddled up next to their mom in the stall. Momma smiled at them both and was happy to see how well her kittens are progressing. After a short nap in the stall, then Momma will let them explore some more of the farm.
