Scammers are at it again. Have you gotten a text or phone call about Medicaid or Medicare? If you have it’s not legit. Legit companies that handle Medicaid and Medicare will not reach out to you on a whim. It is up to you to keep your plans up to date through your regular channels. Because so much is done through email and texting now brings in the chance for scammers to try and convince you that they are legit companies. When you feel doubtful about any of your accounts check directly with the provider number that you have always used. Don’t assume that the person that called or reached out to you is legit.
Unusual Bill
If you receive a bill from a company stating they are for Medicaid or Medicare, look at the list of charges. If you see unusual charges for services you are unsure about call your provider and ask about it. Don’t call the number on the bill though because it might be the scammers number. Always use the original contact information that you started your plan with.
New Cards
You may also get a call from scammers saying that you need to update your Medicaid or Medicare card. Legit companies will Not reach out to you about that. These scammers will expect you to present them with your personal information in order for you to receive your new card. This is how you are scammed. Don’t do it! Never ever give your social security number or bank information to these people. Always talk directly to your provider if you need a new card.
Referrals
Some scammers may also try and convince you that if you give them the names and numbers of your friends that you will receive a kickback or discount. This is not true. They will get your information this way and you friends. Don’t do it!
In Care Facilities
This is something I find very disturbing. Not only is scamming and fraud happening to people who live at home but also at in care facilities. Some staff in some of these facilities are taking advantage of the insurance companies as well. They do this by stating that their patients or clients are being well cared for by the services provided when they aren’t entirely. Some services might be neglected and the staff pockets the money that the insurance pays out. If you suspect something like this report it. Below I have added a link to FBI field offices that you should find a phone number for your area.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, stay aware of anything suspicious. If something doesn’t seem or feel right, it generally isn’t. If something seems to be to good to be true, it usually is. Protect yourself and your family by being cautious of anyone you don’t know. This goes for everything. Someone trying to do yardwork for you, roof work, etc. You never know who might be trying to scam you. Always look into their credentials further before giving your information or any money.
God bless and have a great day.
