Rose filled the teapot with water and carried it over to the stove. She set it down and turned the burner on. She decided to make herself a sandwich after her hard work with the flower beds. She opened up the refrigerator and took out the turkey, cheese, lettuce, and butter. Rose grabbed a plate and the bread and started to layer her sandwich with the butter first.
The teapot started to whistle so she walked over and turned it off. Out of the cupboard, she pulled out a cup and a teabag. She poured the hot water into the cup and set the pot back onto the stove. From the sugar jar on the counter, she put two teaspoons into her tea and stirred. Rose put the sandwich makings back into the refrigerator, grabbed her sandwich and tea, and walked into the living room.
She put her tea down on the coffee table and sat down on the red antique sofa by the bay window. Rose turned her body sideways so that she could look out the window while she ate. I should rearrange this living room so that I can face the window when I’m in here, she thought.
Rose admired what she could see of the flower beds from the window. As she looked at the railing and porch floor, it dawned on her that she wants to call that handyman. I will call him when I’m finished eating, she thought. She enjoyed her sandwich and looked around the room, still in awe that she owns her grandmother's beautiful home.
“I sure do miss you, grandma,” Rose looked around at all the furnishings.
Out of all the grandchildren that her grandma had, Rose had a special place in her heart. Of course, the others got inheritance money, but she knew that Rose would be the one who would fully appreciate the house and property. The others could care less about the house.
Rose finished up her sandwich and tea and got up to get her purse. The number for Josh the handyman was in there, and she had left it in the kitchen earlier. She carried her cup with her and set it on the counter. Rose dug out the card with Josh's number on it and called him.
“Hello, Josh? This is Rose Connor, I live in the big house on Grand highway... Well, I was wondering if you could do some work for me?”
Rose talked with Josh for about ten minutes and told him the few things that she needed to have done. He told her that he was available tomorrow to start her projects. So she wished him well and hung up the phone. Now, should I rearrange the living room today or tomorrow, she thought.
