Rose sat there enjoying her tea and thinking about her uncle Ralph. She doesn’t know why she didn’t keep in touch with him. He was her favorite uncle after all. Well, I can’t change the past now, she thought. She finished her tea, got up, and walked into the kitchen. I think I’ll just have a sandwich for my dinner, she thought.
In the refrigerator, she took out the turkey, lettuce, cheese, and Mayo. She set it on the counter and grabbed a plate from the cupboard. She picked up the loaf of bread and took out two slices. Rose put her sandwich together and put everything else away. She also poured herself a glass of lemonade.
She carried her sandwich and drink into the living room and sat down on the sofa. She put her drink on the coffee table and picked up the remote. Rose turned on the television and flipped through the guide while she ate her sandwich. On the channel that she had watched “Murder She Wrote” she found “The Mentalist”. So she left that on. I love a good crime show, she thought.
Rose finished her dinner and just relaxed as the sun was going down. She thought about Lisa and her husband, and all the stories that cousin Joyce told her. She remembered one time when cousin Joyce visited grandma’s when she was young. Joyce was thirteen and she arrived with purple hair. She said that her girlfriend convinced her to let her dye her hair for her. They mixed something wrong and when Joyce rinsed her hair it turned out purple. That was pretty funny back then, she thought.
Rose glanced around the room and thought of a few more memories but went back to watching “The Mentalist”. She moved her feet up onto the sofa and lay on her side. With her head on the pillow, she watched the show. It wasn’t long before Rose started to doze off to sleep. In her deep sleep, she started to dream. She saw bits and pieces of different scenes. She saw grandma arguing with uncle Ralph. Then uncle Ralph packed his clothes. She also saw grandma standing in the basement with a shovel.
She woke up to grandma laughing sort of crazy-like, “Oh my goodness… what a strange dream that was. I have never seen that side of grandma before.”
Rose sat up and tried to understand what she just dreamt. "I’m glad that was only a dream, she thought. She went back to watching the TV show that was on and tried not to think about the dream. By this time it was around eight-thirty pm and her cell phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Oh hi Josh, how are you?” Rose asked.
Josh called Rose because he drove by and noticed her lawn could use mowing. He offered to mow it for her and she accepted.
“There are a couple of things I could use some help with too if you didn’t mind?” Rose asked.
Josh had tomorrow open for her so he was willing to help in any way that he could.
“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow around nine,” She said.
Well, that was nice of him to call me and offer, she thought.
Rose decided to head up to bed early so she shut the television off. She took her plate and glass into the kitchen and set them on the counter. She shut and locked the back door, and then turned out the kitchen light. She walked into the living room and turned off the desk lamp. She hit the light switch in the hall, checked the front door, and made her way up the stairs.
She used the bathroom and changed into her nightgown. Off of her dresser, she picked up a book that she started reading. She carried it to her bed, turned the table lamp on, and climbed into bed. She read for about half an hour before she started to get tired again. So she put her book on the table and shut the lamp off. She snuggled down under the sheet and closed her eyes.
