The afternoon that Lisa and Rose had together turned out to be a nice one after all. Rose was supportive of the struggles that Lisa was having with her husband and Lisa was very supportive of Rose finding her uncle Ralph. Rose told Lisa that if she ever needed anything, to just let her know.
“You take care and give me a call soon,” Rose waved goodbye to Lisa.
Rose stood in her driveway for a few minutes after Lisa drove away. I guess marriage isn’t always the best way to go, she thought. She looked around at the beauty that surrounded her.
“Living here alone just got better,” Rose turned and walked to the porch.
She stopped and admired her beautiful blooming flowers in the beds by the porch. A little bumblebee was pollinating the blooms. I need to move that rocking chair out here on the porch, she thought. Rose walked up the steps and went into the house. She went to the basement and walked down the stairs. I wonder who put grandma’s chair down here anyways, she thought. She picked it up and carefully carried it up the steps.
Rose set it down briefly in the kitchen but got a grip on it again and carried it through the living room. She carried it out through the front door and set it down off to the side of the windows. She brushed it off with her hand and sat down. All of a sudden her cell phone rang. It was Lisa letting her know that she was home and that everything with her husband is fine now.
“We will have to plan a day where all of you can come over,” Rose said.
Lisa agreed and Rose hung up. Rose sat there in the rocker and enjoyed how peaceful it was. Just the sounds of birds chirping and the breeze blowing through the trees. Some people fear the quiet because they don’t know what to do with it. Rose accepts it completely and cherishes it. As she sat there a monarch butterfly came to visit. It fluttered right in front of her and then flew to the flowers.
“Could that be you grandma? Are you checking up on me?” Rose talked to the butterfly.
It fluttered around only for a minute and then it flew off. Rose gently rocked in the chair and saw the neighbor across the street pull into his driveway. She watched as he got out of the car and pulled out what looked like a bouquet of flowers. I guess Lisa isn’t the only one getting flowers today, Rose thought. The man walked to the house and the lady stepped out onto the porch. As he walked up the steps she held her arms open to him. They hugged and went inside.
“Who needs to watch television, I see enough drama without it,” Rose chuckled.
Rose sat there enjoying the fresh air but was also thinking about her grandma’s bedroom. I’ve always wanted to start sewing again, she thought. Maybe I will turn grandma’s room into my sewing room. The wheels in her head were turning and she was picturing how the room might look. After all, I might as well utilize that room for something, she thought.
Rose was also playing with the idea of growing enough flowers to start her own flower shop at the house. So much time and not enough to do to fill it, now that she doesn’t necessarily have to work.
“I could use some more lemonade,” she stood up from the rocking chair and went inside.
She picked up her and Lisa’s drinking glasses from the coffee table and walked into the kitchen. Rose put Lisa’s glass in the sink and carried hers to the refrigerator. She poured herself some more lemonade, took a carrot from the tray, and closed the fridge door. With all the thoughts of grandma’s bedroom in her head now, she decided to go on her computer.
Rose walked into the living room, set her drink on the coffee table, and picked up her laptop from the wingback chair. She sat down on the sofa and decided to look up some prices for sewing tables and such. Since she lived in a small town she wasn’t sure what she would find in town. That’s why shopping online comes in handy.
