When Rose walked back into the kitchen from the basement, she opened up the battery compartment of the radio. There weren’t even any batteries in it. So what was playing the music that she thought she heard? Hmm, that’s strange, she thought.
Rose grabbed her coffee cup from the kitchen table and poured more coffee into it. She sat back down at the kitchen table and stared at the radio. I know that I heard music, but it obviously didn’t come from you, she thought.
After Rose finished her second cup of coffee, she slowly unpacked the rest of the boxes that were in the kitchen. She only had a few dishes of her own to add to her grandma’s collection in the cupboards. She also had her kitchen towels and accessories that she switched out in one of the drawers. She will pack away any of Grandma’s things that she didn’t want out.
But Rose also had her Emeril Air fryer oven that she loved and placed on the counter near the microwave. That was a birthday gift that she bought herself one year. When she was done in the kitchen, she stepped out onto the front porch to take in some country air. She looked across the highway and noticed some people moving into the house over there.
“Hmm, I guess the Lander’s had moved… I wonder when that happened?”
Rose turned around and looked at the floor of the porch. I’ll have to hire someone to do some painting for me, she thought.
“Oh yeah, and to fix that loose shutter,” she walked back inside.
Rose trotted up the stairs to unpack some more boxes. She had a box full of bath towels and accessories that she preferred to use over her grandmother’s. So she unpacked hers and packed up her grandma’s. Grandma had a nice large linen closet so Rose was able to put her towels and sheets and stuff in there. After she got her grandma’s stuff packed up, she noticed the chest.
“Oh yeah, I want to see what’s in that,” She walked over to it.
She dragged the chest across the floor about three feet, to a wingback chair and sat down. She noticed it had a padlock on it but it was unlocked. She carefully took the lock off, and slowly pushed the lid of the chest up. No wonder why it’s so heavy, she thought.
Rose picked up a couple of books and looked at the covers, “gardening for beginners, and how to keep vermin at bay… Well, she was always proud of her flower beds,” Rose put the books on the floor. There were several other books in the chest, but she noticed some folded shirts and pants too.
“This looks like a shirt I remember seeing uncle Ralph wearing,” She looked it over.
It had a little black bow and arrows all over it, so it was an interesting shirt to remember. She also found a couple of pairs of men’s shoes toward the bottom of the chest. I wonder if uncle Ralph left these here… I wonder how he is doing, it’s been so long, she thought. Then she noticed several more books to do with gardening and canning on the bottom. I would think that grandma would of had these books on shelves, she thought.
