Rose sat on her sofa while officer Dunn asked her about her uncle Ralph. Josh stood by the desk fiddling with a stapler and officer Porter wandered around the house.
“When the forensic team gets here would it be alright if I left for a while? I really need to take myself out of this situation for a while,” Rose looked at officer Dunn.
“Okay, after I’m done with my questions,” officer Dunn said.
“Josh, would you mind staying here while I’m gone?” Rose looked at him.
“No, that’s fine. I’ll load up my truck while you’re gone,” Josh said.
“So, all you know is that your uncle Ralph lived here for a while?” Officer Dunn asked.
“Yes, that’s what I was told by my cousin and my aunt,” Rose said.
“Can you supply their phone numbers for me?” Officer Dunn looked at Rose.
“Yes, I’ll write them down for you,” Rose got up and walked over to the desk.
Rose took out a piece of paper and a pen from the one desk drawer. She opened up her address book and wrote down the addresses and phone numbers of her aunt and cousin. She also wrote down her other aunt Patties number as well.
“I don’t know where my aunt Patty lives so you will have to call her to find out,” Rose walked over to officer Dunn and handed her the paper.
“Thank you, and thank you for your cooperation Rose, that will be all for now,” officer Dunn folded the paper and slipped it into her notebook.
Just then, the forensic van pulled into the driveway. Three people got out of it and took out various equipment. Officers Dunn and Porter met the team outside and took them around to the back door. That way they weren’t tracking through the whole house.
Rose grabbed her purse and her car keys and gave Josh a peck on the cheek.
“Thank you, I’ll be back in about an hour or so,” Rose said softly to Josh.
“Okay, no problem,” Josh said.
Rose got in her car and drove it around and over the front lawn and back onto the driveway. She turned onto the road and headed into town.
“This is a good time to go to Joann Fabrics… I can get my fabric for my curtains and it will take my mind off of this for a while,” Rose drove down the road.
Josh went upstairs and carefully brought down the bed frame rails and headboard. He carried them out to his truck and laid them in the bed of it. While he was doing that officers Porter and Dunn were in the basement with the forensic team. The team started out by taking photos of everything. Then, carefully started to dig more around the body to reveal the whole thing.
Rose pulled into the shopping center where Joann Fabrics was and parked. She looked around and eventually made her way to the fabric department. She looked among the various fabrics until she found one that really pleased her eye. She looked it over and carried the roll to the counter. She told the lady at the counter how much she needed and the lady proceeded to cut it.
Rose looked around at the colored threads and found some that would work nicely with the fabric. She picked up a spool and walked back to where the lady was with her fabric. When the lady was done cutting and tagging the fabric, Rose took it and the thread and looked around where the clothing patterns were. She sat down and flipped through the various packets of patterns but didn’t find anything she liked.
Back at the house, Josh carefully dragged the box spring down the carpeted steps. Officer Porter just happened to walk through the kitchen and saw Josh dragging the box spring down.
“Here, let me help you with that,” officer Porter rushed over to Josh.
“Oh, thank you,” Josh smiled.
The men carried the box spring out to Joshes truck and laid it down in the bed. Officer Porter followed Josh back inside and up the stairs to help him with the mattress as well.
“It’s a shame if that is really her uncle isn’t it?” Officer Porter said.
“Yeah, I know. I guess as a kid she was close to him,” Josh said.
“Well, it will get figured out soon enough,” officer Porter lifted one end of the mattress.
Down in the basement the forensic team got the whole skeleton intact and out of the hole. They continued to document everything they saw and found. Officer Dunn was still taking notes as to what the team members would say. One of the men said that it looks like there is a skull fracture and that the skeleton is definitely a male.
