Rose stood aside and watched as Josh dug up the basement floor. He dug down about three feet and still nothing was there to be found.
“How much further do you want me to go?” He asked.
“Keep going, and make it wider too,” Rose said.
So Josh dug and dug all around the area where the bookcase once stood. Rose watched and contemplated if that was the right area to be digging. Just then her cell phone rang so she ran upstairs to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Hello dear, this is Mrs. Miller.”
“Hi Mrs. Miller, how have you been?” Rose asked.
“I’m very well thank you. I was wondering if I could drop by for a while?” Mrs. Miller asked.
“Well, I’m kind of busy at the moment,” Rose said.
“Oh… Well, I guess I will tell you all about it at another time then,” Mrs. Miller said.
“Tell me about what?” Rose asked.
“About the falling out that your grandmother and your uncle Ralph had,” She said.
“You know about that? Do you know where he moved to?” Rose asked.
“No I don’t, she never told me that. She just said that he’s gone for good,” Mrs. Miller said.
“Excuse me Mrs. Miller but I have to go. I’ll talk to you soon,” Rose hung up her phone and hurried back down the stairs.
Josh was still digging and tossing the dirt to one side, “Do you really think that your uncle Ralph is buried down here?”
Rose watched with anticipation, “Yes I do,”
Just then, Rose saw something blue, “What’s that?” She pointed.
Josh put the shovel down, and with his hands, he dug a little deeper. He jumped back and stared at it.
“What is it?” Rose looked at Josh.
“It’s blue jeans,” Josh looked at her. “Do you think that we should call the police?” He asked.
“We have to make sure first,” Rose slowly knelt by the hole and dug by the blue jeans.
Josh knelt by her and helped. Carefully they uncovered what seemed to be a pair of blue jean-covered legs. And just like that, the soft music stopped playing. Rose got back up and stared at the pair of legs. Josh stood up and touched her shoulder.
“Should we call the police now?” He asked.
“Yes… I will,” she said softly.
Rose turned around and slowly walked up the steps. Josh looked at the surprise that they uncovered for a minute, and then followed her upstairs. Rose picked up her cell phone, sat down on the sofa, and dialed 911. Josh washed his hands in the kitchen and decided that Rose might want a drink. He took out a glass from the cupboard and the lemonade from the fridge. He poured some lemonade for her and himself, then put the pitcher back in the fridge.
Josh walked into the living room with the two glasses, and Rose just hung up her phone.
“Here Rose,” Josh handed her the glass of lemonade.
“Oh, thank you… The police are on their way,” Rose said.
Josh stood and looked at Rose for a moment as she sat there staring at her lemonade.
“Are you okay?” Josh asked.
Rose took a drink of lemonade and then set the glass on the coffee table.
“I’m sad and mad at the same time if that’s possible,” she said. “I can’t believe that my grandma did that to my uncle Ralph,” Rose looked at Josh.
“Well, you don’t know any of that for sure yet,” Josh said.
“I dreamt it. I actually dreamt it,” Rose looked at Josh.
“You dreamt it? Wow,” Josh turned, looked out the bay window, and drank his lemonade.
“I can’t believe it… I’m shocked… I don’t know what to think,” Rose said.
Josh walked over to the sofa and sat down next to her. He put his hand on her upper back, “It’s going to be okay,”
“All this time I thought it was grandma’s spirit talking to me and it wasn’t. It was uncle Ralph’s… Poor uncle Ralph,” Rose started to cry.
Josh reached out to Rose with his other hand, and she fell into his arms. Rose cried for a few minutes in Joshes arms. As she sniffled, she backed up from his chest and looked into his sparkling blue eyes.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to involve you in this,” Rose said.
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it,” Josh touched her arm.
Rose grabbed a couple of tissues out of the box on the coffee table and blew her nose. She wiped her eyes with another tissue and took another drink of lemonade.
“Okay… If that is uncle Ralph, at least I know where he is now,” Rose sat back and looked out the window.
“You didn’t know where he was?” Josh asked.
“No, and no one in my family knew either,” Rose said.
Josh sat back and just stayed there to support Rose. She went on and told him a few stories about her uncle Ralph and how much fun he was.

If that is Uncle Ralph that Rose and Josh dug up, it's sad but at least now Rose will know where and what happened to Uncle Ralph.
