Rose set the few books back inside the chest and closed it. I guess I will just leave the chest here as a table, for now, she thought. She centered it between the two chairs that were there. In her bedroom, she had a few boxes to go through and unpack. One had her throw rugs in it, so she rummaged through it. She found the perfect one to put beside her bed and laid it out. It had medallions on it with bright yellow, blue, and green colors.
She also picked up the rug that her grandma had in the bathroom upstairs and replaced it with hers. After Rose got her clothes hung and put away, she went back downstairs. I have to go to the store so I have some food in this house, she thought. So she walked into the kitchen and closed and locked the back door. She grabbed her purse that was still in the living room and unlocked the front door.
When she opened the front door, a muscular, blonde-haired, young man in a red tank top walked up the steps.
“Hi, can I help you?” Rose stepped out onto the porch.
“Hello, My name is Josh and I know that you just moved here, so I thought I would offer my handyman services to you,” he handed her his card.
“Well, thank you, Josh,” Rose looked at the card. “I will be needing someone soon so I will give you a call. I’m on my way out right now,” Rose put his card in her purse.
“Thank you, ma'am,” He turned and trotted down the steps.
Josh climbed up into his big Ford truck and slowly pulled out of the driveway. Rose walked down the stairs and looked at the empty flower beds. Maybe I will stop and pick up some flowers too, she thought. She climbed into her car and headed to the local Ace Hardware store about 15 miles down the road.
Rose walked into the garden shop section of the store and browsed through the plants and flowers. Because she was a florist, she knew approximately all the flowers and plants that she saw there.
“Can I help you with anything?” a polite older man walked up to her.
“Yes, do you deliver?” Rose asked.
“Yes if you plan on purchasing more than twenty dollars worth.”
“Yes I do, and I think I know what I want already,” she said.
The man took out a pen and tablet from his pocket and started to jot down everything she said she wanted. This order was going to be well over twenty dollars. She walked around with him and pointed to that plant and that flower, naming each one of them. She told him she wanted so many of those and so many of these, along with two bags of fertilizer. Let’s just say that by the time she was done, the man was smiling from ear to ear.
Rose walked up to the cashier with the older man and paid for everything she ordered.
“You should have it later today,” The man shook her hand.
“Thank you so much for your help,” Rose waved.
She hopped into her car, drove through the parking lot, and into the grocery store parking lot. How convenient, she thought as she parked. This was still the same grocery store only with a different name from what she remembered. She probably spent an hour there and got everything she wanted. Rose had her things checked out at the register and headed back home.
