Have you ever been taken advantage of or scammed?
I wouldn’t be surprised. It is happening everywhere and with everything. A good majority of this scamming is happening while you are on your phone or on your computer.
If you are on any social media platform like Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, you have a profile. Scammer’s will see your profile, and what you like, and target you. Some real examples of this is;
Scammer’s will have an important looking or sounding profile such as, they are in the military, they are, actor’s/actresses, musicians, or others similar. They will ask you how long have you been a fan, or compliment you on your profile picture and ask to get to know you better. Do not fall for that! Important people are not going to be on Instagram or Facebook and messaging you out of the blue! It will only lead to them getting more of your information, or convincing you to give them money.
Another example is when searching for houses or places to rent online. There are so many platforms like Zillow, Redfin, Apartments.com, Realtor.com, and more that can have scammer’s connected to them. I’m not exactly sure how the scammers do it, but when you click that you want more information on a place to buy or rent, they have your email now.
Real example; Someone I know clicked that she wanted more information about a house through apartments.com and she was emailed by someone we thought was with the realtor company. They convincingly gave her some more information and then asked her to fill out an application. Do Not, I Repeat, Do Not Ever fill out an application or give any money to these people without being able to talk to them in person, and know that they are actually with the property that you want to buy or rent.
Dating sights can also be dangerous. I don’t care what dating sight it is or how much protection they say they have. Nasty scamming people will still be on there. They may not be scamming for money, but there is only one other thing that scammers on a dating sight are looking for. So Be Careful!
Sad And True
The people who do this scamming don’t care who they hurt. They don’t care about you. The majority of the people who are targeted for scams are women, young girls, and senior citizens. And it’s because that group is automatically more trust worthy. You look around in public places and see all these people having lunch, or are grocery shopping which seems normal. But you don’t know… That person at the coffee shop could be an online scammer. We really can’t trust anyone we don’t know especially online.
My suggestion to you is, if someone you really don’t know online reaches out to you, don’t talk to them or meet with them. They have ways of convincing you. They will take advantage of you. And it could also lead to your demise.
