I looked into the room and it was as dark as a night sky. The feeling of uncertainty rushed over me and I wondered if I should go in there. I then felt for the light switch but couldn't find one.
Suddenly, the lights went out in the rest of the building and I stood in total darkness. What should I do, I thought.
“Hello,” I called out.
There didn't seem to be a single person around. I know that there were people on the first level because they sent me up here to level six. I'm not sure if I can find my way back to the lobby in the dark. I had a hard enough time trying to find my way here.
Just then the emergency lights switched on so there was some light in the hallway. If this is the room where I'm supposed to be, then where is everyone else? I don't think that I'm that early, I thought. All of a sudden I heard a noise inside of the room.
“Is anyone in there?” I asked.
No answer from anyone but I'm sure that I heard something. After about a minute of me contemplating, I heard the elevator ding down at the end of the hall. I waited and listened for someone to come to me but no one did. I looked at my watch and it seemed to have stopped. That's strange, it stopped after I arrived here, I thought. Well, I know that it must be at least eight o’clock.
But what is going on? No one is here and the power is out. Does this mean that there won't be any meeting tonight, I thought. I waited for another five minutes and then decided to leave. I headed to the elevator and hit the down button. The doors opened so I went inside. I hit the lobby button and surprisingly the elevator started to go down. I wasn't sure since the main power still seemed to be off.
When the elevator stopped and the doors opened, I was surprised by all the people there. Rescue squad worker's, the police, firemen, and a couple of people crying. What is going on, I thought. I stepped out of the elevator and walked a few feet from it. I asked a police officer what had happened but he must not have heard me. I turned around and was shocked by what I saw. There from the elevator that I thought I just stepped out of, laid four or five dead people. There bodies were bloody and severely banged up. The elevator itself looked like it had crashed.
“Wait, what happened?” I asked.
Nobody said anything to me. I was confused as to how this happened when I just walked out of there. Then, the paramedics moved in close and picked up one of the bodies. After they put the man on the gerny and wheeled him out, I couldn't believe my eyes. Under that man laid me. Me, wearing the same clothes that I have on. But how could that be? I'm standing right here.
Then, I heard a fireman say, that the speed the elevator fell to the ground at, there was no way anyone could have survived. I backed away feeling confused.
“So, what do I do now?”
Just then, the man who the paramedics had moved first tapped me on the shoulder, “follow me young lady.”
The End
I hoped that you enjoyed this short story. It was just something that came to mind. I never really know what kind of story will pop up in my thinking. But please let me know what you think in the comments below.
You had me thinking with this one. With her stopped watch, I was at first thinking aliens or something lololol.
