Martin the squirrel and his best friend Ratton’ the rat, went to the local zoo. They heard about a new member that was added and was being introduced to the public the next morning. Martin thought that it would be fun to see the new addition before everyone else did so they snuck into the zoo.
“Do you know which enclosure he was put in?” Ratton’ asked.
Martin glanced around the dimly lit zoo and pin pointed where they were, “okay, we snuck in by the bird sanctuary so yes, he should be down this way.”
Martin pointed toward the dark path that led to the Asian territory. The path was lined with thick grasses and foliage so they shouldn’t lose their way.
“What makes you think he would be down there?” Ratton’ nervously asked.
“I overheard someone say that he came from Asia. Come on, don’t be scared,” Martin looked back at his friend.
Ratton’ glanced around and then scurried up next to Martin. The two of them quietly made their way to the Asian territory at the zoo. They saw one of the Asian elephants getting a drink of water.
“Is it him?” Ratton’ asked.
“No, he’s been here for years.”
They continued on and saw the orangutan enclosure. Everyone in there looked to be sleeping peacefully.
“Hey look, someone left a good piece of a peanut butter sandwich here,” Ratton’ picked it up and nibble on it.
“Come on, I want to find out who the new addition is,” Martin said as he walked on.
“Hol om,” Ratton’ said.
“What?” Martin looked back at him.
Ratton’ smacked his lips and licked the inside of his mouth, “I said hold on… The peanut butter stuck to the roof of my mouth.”
Martin snickered, “oh, okay. Are you ready now?”
“Okay, let’s find this mystery animal,” Ratton’ scurried up alongside Martin.
As the two of them continued walking the path, they saw Loran the lion his old friend pacing back and forth.
“I wonder what is wrong with her,” Ratton’ said.
“I don’t know but let’s find out,” Martin scampered over to the fence.
“Hello Loran, is something troubling you?” Martin called out to her.
I know that voice, Loran thought as she looked around the ground.
“We’re right here,” Martin waved his arm.
When Loran saw Martin and Ratton’ she rushed over to them, “I bet you heard.”
“Well, I heard that someone new is here. Do you know who it is?” Martin said.
“Yes, and that’s why I’m up and pacing at this hour,” Loran sighed.
“Well, who is it?” Ratton’ asked.
Loran glanced around and then whispered his name, “Zeus.”
“Zeus? Well what’s so special about him?” Martin asked.
“What’s so special about him? Well, he’s a big beautiful tiger who is ten years younger than me. He might become the main attraction here instead of me,” Loran plopped her body down.
Martin saw how disturbed Loran looked and came up with an idea, “what if I talk to him and see what his intentions are here at the zoo?”
Loran’s ears perked up, “you would do that for me, Martin?”
“Sure, what could it hurt?”
Ratton’ looked at Martin, “what could it hurt? He could hurt us.”
Martin looked at Ratton’, “we will just keep our distance but welcome him to the city and see what type of personality he has,”
“Thank you Martin, and please let me know how it goes,” Loran said and purred.
