There was a report of something flying around the sky at night. I hadn't seen anything and neither have my friends. But on a dark and dewy night when my friends mother Kim went out, I guess she saw it. Kim said that the man she was with, left the car to go to the convenient store when he was attacked. She didn’t know what was happening yet, she just saw something big. The mans arms were flailing about as he stumbled back to the car. When he hit the driver door with his body, Kim said she screamed but didn’t know what to do. Before the man could open the door to get in, the beast attacked him again and tore him to shreds.
Kim said that she stayed in the car until the beast finally left. She then, ran into the store and had them call the police. The guy in the store didn’t see anything because he was busy in the back. But when the police arrived and Kim calmed down some she told the police what had happened. She said that the thing had wings but looked like a vicious dog. Of course she was still upset when she told them what had happened. Kim said that they looked at her as if she was nuts. The police took her statement and shut down the area for investigation.
As torn apart as the mans body was outside of the car, the police knew that Kim wouldn’t have been able to do anything like that. They took her information and then a female officer took her home. My friend told me that her mom broke down crying that night and was afraid to go back outside. I thought the story was a little on the wild side too, but how could anyone make up a story like that, I thought.
A few days went by without any reports of seeing the creature in the sky. Some people had thought that maybe it had moved on, if there was a creature. That was until I saw it. I was driving home from a concert I went to in the next county. It was a clear night and the sky was full of stars. The weather was warm but pleasant so I had my window open. I was jamming to my music like usual when I saw something swoop down and then disappear. I kept driving until I saw something again. It flew directly towards my car and then up and over it.
Unsure of what I saw, I pulled over to the side of the road and then stuck my head out of the window. I looked up into the sky but didn’t see anything. Then I thought about what Kim had said about how the beast ripped her friend to shreds, so I quickly ducked back inside. Before I could get my window closed all the way, I heard a thump and felt the car shake. As I looked out through my windshield, there it was. A massive beast snarling with teeth bigger than a normal dogs. It was very muscular and had huge wings like my friends mom had said.
I finished rolling up the window and sat completely still. It moved up close to the windshield and stared at me. I was trembling with fear and wasn’t sure what I was going to do. The beast growled and huffed. Then it turned in a complete circle and growled again. I sat there quietly watching it. It stared at me and licked it’s mouth as if it was thinking that I looked like a good meal. What am I going to do, I thought. Then it came to me. I pressed and held my car horn which blared. It startled the beast enough that it jumped and flew up.
I threw my car into drive and stepped on the gas. I sped down the road going almost eighty. I knew that I had about fifteen miles to go before I got home though. I glanced around on both sides of my car while I drove but didn’t see the beast. Maybe it decided not to come after me, I thought. Well, I thought wrong. When something is hungry, it wants to eat. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw it right behind me. It was dark and hard to see, but it’s eyes had a mysterious glow about them. I tried to weave my car back and forth so it wouldn’t land on it but it had long claws.
I heard its claws scratch the roof of my car as it tried to grab on. I then saw it swoop down in front of my car as if it was trying to get me to stop again. Not this time, I thought. I heard it once again hit my roof but I think it missed. I wanted to scream and cry but I knew that that wouldn’t do me any good. I continued to drive going about eighty when I noticed that I hadn’t heard any more sounds on my roof. Maybe it gave up, I thought. But I wasn’t taking any chances and kept going.
All of a sudden, I was hit from the driver side. I screamed out of reflex and it managed to run me off the road. Into a corn field I drove and quickly stopped. My car suddenly died and wouldn’t restart. I glanced back and saw that the beast must have stunned itself when it hit my door because it just laid in the road. This could be my chance to get away, but to where, I thought. I couldn’t get out of my driver door so I had to go out the passenger door. As quiet as possible, I opened the passenger door and climbed out. Before I ducked into the corn field I looked back at the road. The beast slightly moved so I knew that it was still alive.
I stayed in the cornfield but followed the direction of the road. Quietly I walked but kept an eye on the sky. If the beast wasn’t badly injured, I’m sure that it will be flying over me soon. About five minutes of walking among the cornstalks, I did see it fly over. I was right so I ducked down and hoped that it didn’t see me. When it disappeared again I continued on. This this thing is strong and persistent, I thought. I must have walked about a mile without seeing any sign of the beast. Only briefly did I think that maybe it gave up, so I stayed alert.
Tired and thirsty, I moved closer to the road. I was hoping that since morning was coming soon, that someone might drive this country road. If I heard a vehicle I could run out and stop them. I must have walked another mile, or so it felt. The sky was just starting to lighten up some. I thought I heard the sound of a truck off in the distance and wanted to see. As I walked out of the cornstalks, I saw the beast flying high in the sky. I quickly looked both ways down the road and finally saw a semi-truck. It was approaching from the opposite direction and I waved my arms.
The beast had finally saw me and started to fly towards me. I ducked back into the field and it swooped over me. When it flew up high again, I ran out and waved at the semi driver. The driver must not have seen me yet because the truck was still moving fast. When I saw the beast fly towards me again, I ran back into the field. It swooped over me again and then went high. I ran out to the road one more time to wave the truck down. The beast made a quick turn this time and headed back. The only thing was that the truck driver never did slow down. Just as the beast flew towards me again, it must have thought it would beat the truck.
Well, the beast thought wrong. The semi-truck hit the beast full force. The driver almost lost control but regained it and pulled over about a hundred feet from the impact spot. I waited and watched by the edge of the road. The bloody beast jerked and twitched off to one side. I then saw the driver of the truck hop down from his cab and slowly walk around to the front of his truck. The beast still twitched so I wasn’t sure if it was safe. When the truck driver walked around to the back of his truck, I felt so relieved.
I ran into the road and yelled for help. The driver stopped and looked at me. I told him about the beast that he hit and pointed to it. The driver looked toward the side of the road and saw the massive creature lying there. I asked him if we could please go and get somewhere safe. Out of curiosity the driver wanted to see the thing that he hit. But I stood back while the driver carefully walked over to it. What seemed like forever was only a couple of minutes. The driver stood near it and stared at it. All of a sudden I heard a gun shot.
The driver walked back toward me holstering his gun. He told me that he always carries his gun while on the road because you never know what kind of trouble you might run in to. I smiled at him out of relief. He then helped me get up into the cab of his truck and asked me where I wanted to go. I told him that I wanted to go home, but that we should report this to the police. He agreed and called the local police department. When someone finally got out there, we told them both of our stories. If the body of the beast wasn’t there bleeding all over the road, they might not have believed us either.
The End.
