It’s been just over a year of me writing on Substack and I love it. I love being able to put my crazy imagination down on paper so to speak for everyone to read it. Those of you that have been reading my work from the start have seen some of the strange and rather interesting things that I write. But those of you who are new to my work might want to check out my archives. There you will find ghosts, sea creatures, aliens, and much more. I also write about different health topics and other news occasionally.
What got me to this point in my life?
Well, I have always dabbled with writing but never on a platform that is meant for the public. I started out many years ago with writing in journal books and on plain paper. I played with poetry, children’s stories, and fiction horror. My ex-husband back in the day even compiled some of my past stories into a homemade book which was sweet. I guess he thought my work was good enough to be in a book. If I were to dig those out now though, I’m sure some editing and refreshing would need to be done. I also got to this point because of not being able to get a job where I have been living. So, I figured that I might as well try and bring in some money by being a writer… Here’s a great Big Thank You to the few of you who have opened a paid subscription for me.
Now, as a writer… Wait, I used to think, wow, it would be cool to be called a writer. I can actually say that now. I am a writer, just not yet a traditionally published writer. By writing on Substack though and having it published this way, it gives me a chance to get my writing creations noticed. And by the way, I want to send out a Big Thank You to Gail at 3musesmerge for introducing Substack to me. If it wasn’t for her telling me about Substack, I would probably be only writing on my blog or maybe even stopped writing altogether. Because Substack is for writers and readers, I feel like our writing is cherished more, which then makes me want to continue with it.
As a writer though, I do have big dreams of becoming a well respected author of thrillers and horror, but only time will tell with that. I am just enjoying the writing that I’m doing now and learning along the way. Being a part of the Substack community is rewarding to me. Even though I write alone, I don’t feel alone. There are many very talented Substack members that are helpful because of their writing and are also willing to give you their input if asked. What I have read and written so far, I believe that I have learned a lot and come a long way in a year.
What are my plans?
Along with writing on Substack, my plan is to self-publish my first book later this year, (2023). It will be a compilation of spooky campfire style stories. I would also like to get a story that I have been working on completed and submit it to one of my favorite old magazines, “Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine”. It’s great to have my writing noticed on Substack but I also want to get it out in other areas of the world. Some days I have to admit that I struggle and feel like I will never be a successful author. But I tell myself that I have only been seriously doing this for a year. And with my sister, my niece, and a few others rooting me on and giving me feedback really helps to lift me up. Thank you ladies.
As of the other day, I did finally get an unrelated job. It will take up some of my time but I will still try and write something on Substack at least three times a week, maybe more. Even though I am grateful to my few subscribers, more money is needed for the bills. The place that hired me said that it is only temporary and that I will be helping with the remodeling, which is cool. But who knows, if they like me, then maybe they will hire me for longer.
So, that is how I have gotten to where I am now. Even though I dabbled with writing in the past, I never really thought that I would have taken it this far. I am proud of how far I have come with my writing and hope to some day be well known for it. But for now, knowing that a few of you enjoy it, makes me happy. Thank you readers and thank you subscribers. Without you my stories wouldn’t have a purpose.
