The heat is nice when it is cold.
The heat is helpful when you grow old.
The heat is loved by many plants and people,
But I for one have had enough of it.
This is just a silly poem to express how hot this summer has been here in Florida. The temperatures vary from place to place but we have had it as high as 93 with 67% humidity. And the heat index can make feel like 100. And to me that’s HOT. I enjoy Florida for many of the other characteristics you might say it has. Such as the wildlife, plants, and the pleasant temperatures in the winter. But the summers here are so humid and hot that I don’t even like going outside. It is interesting though that when you grow older and live in Florida they say that your blood thins and you get cold easier in cooler temperatures. I’ve been here 26 years and I have noticed that when it hits 60 degrees, I do get chilly. But I love those temps. It’s a nice change. I can even tolerate 50 degrees for a while.
Some of you might think that those temps aren’t cold and I agree with you. Because where I’m originally from the temps got as low as -15 and that’s cold. But after living in a climate where it’s hot much of the time, I don’t think I could take temps that cold anymore. The plus side to temperature changes though is that it helps to regulate the plant life. Some of the plants here in Florida don’t do well with cold temps but cooler temps helps them with their photosynthesis and germination process. Did you know that we have over 4,700 different plant species here in Florida? And that’s because of our temperatures. Some of the plants and animals might like it humid and hot and that’s okay, but I look forward to autumn each year.
Our autumn here might not look as colorful and pretty compared to where I’m originally from but the temps are nice. Florida colors change slightly depending on the tree. And some trees and grass might go dormant to a certain extent but nothing like in colder climates. I guess that’s why we have a lot of people who spend their winters down here if they’re from the north. The weather is pleasant and we still have a lot of greenery.
Well, I hope that you enjoyed this fun and factual post. Feel free to let me know how your temperatures are where you live and how they affect you. Until next time, take care and stay cool.
Our temps are in the 100's!!! Heat index up as high as 114°F. Humidity is awful! In the winter when the temps drop to the 50-60 range I might wear a sweater or sweatshirt jacket. All the locals will be bundled up in hats, scarves, boots and gloves. They ask me why I am not dressed warmer. They think I shoild be freezing. But to me it is cool outside, not freezing. I grew up in Michigan where the temps would get down to -30°F and below. That is really cold. The temps here in winter feel like a nice Spring day from up there. We came down in 1992 after spending 12 yrs in Germany. Winters there weren't quite as cold as winter temps in Michigan.
I agree with all you have written. Also, yes this summer here in Florida has been very hot ! All the plants and trees that are at our home are surviving the heat. Even the bunnies are still hopping and running around. Makes me feel hotter just watching them, but they are so cute ! They make me smile !!
