Hidden Stories
Hundred word story
Lillian dropped the rose when she screamed. Fear attacked her and ripped some fabric from her dress. She heard a deep voice come from the shadows.
“Fear, back down,” said a man as he stepped out.
Fear, the German Shepherd, walked over to him and sat down.
The man dressed in a black robe walked over to Lillian and helped her up off the street.
“I apologize Miss, Fear was just watching out for me. The color red is a trigger for him since our attack. He is a very calm dog otherwise.”
“I understand,” Lillian showed him her scar.
The End
I wrote this story for awareness. Many of us go about our day with not a lot of worry. Shopping or walking a usual route would be second nature to us. But, when you have suffered a personal and overwhelming trauma, that simple task could be fearful. And many times a trigger will stick with the victim. It could be a sound, a color, or even a smell. That trigger will take the person or animal back to that horrible event.
The man and his dog Fear, were attacked and beaten almost two years ago but the fear is still with them. Yes, they bravely walk the route but worry still follows them. The ladies red dress represents the red sweatshirts that the men were wearing as they beat down the victim's. Fear only saw the red color and went into defense mode, protecting his master and himself. Thankfully the man was right there to stop Fear from seriously injuring the woman. The woman was very startled but she completely understood. She had been attacked in the past and knows how it has affected her life to this day.
