That evening before Ben and Julie settled down at the hotel, Ben called the estate lawyer. He asked the lawyer if he knew anything about the house and property that his aunt had left him. Ben was told that years before his aunt moved in, there was a young family that lived there for a short time. He said that the family unexpectedly left and then Kate’s husband bought the house. Ben was never sure of where his aunt met her husband. All he knew was that she said she was in love and was moving away.
The next day, Ben and Julie headed back over to the house. Julie roamed around by herself while Ben looked at the books in the library. He heard that the books that a person has or had in this case can say a lot about a person. What he noticed though was that his aunts husband liked cutlery and gardening.
“Are these books my aunts or her husbands?” Ben glanced at the rest of them.
“Hmm, this interesting… “War And Peace and Teaching American Literature.”
All of a sudden, Ben her a loud crash out in the greenhouse. He dug the keys out of his pocket and searched for the one that opened the greenhouse door. But before he could even find the key, he heard the door unlock and watched as it slowly opened.
Ben peeked into the greenhouse, “who’s there? I know that someone is in here. I heard you giggling yesterday when I was here.”
Off in the distance Ben heard loud whispers so he cautiously walked in and glanced around. Maybe I can sneak up on them, he thought. Ben quietly walked around some plants to the outer wall of the greenhouse with hopes to surprise whoever it was that might be in the center. But, just as he was walking that way, he heard a whisper right next to him.
Ben jumped and glanced around but saw no one. I’m not going crazy am I? There’s got to be a logical explanation for this, he thought. While he continued to spy on whoever was in there, he suddenly heard soft music playing in the house. Or at least it sounded like it was coming from there. As Ben crept around more potted plants, he then stopped and peaked through some of them. He was hoping to see who was giggling again. But again all he saw were plants.
Quietly he turned when he reached the other end of the greenhouse and walked to the main isle. Ben listened and heard the whispers of two young girls coming from the center. He remembered the small table and chairs that he saw there yesterday and thought that maybe they were there. The music or lullaby that was playing got louder as he got closer to the center. Ben looked around and wondered if the music was actually in there with him now.
Carefully, he walked the main isle towards the giggling. He didn’t see anyone at first, but when he saw the table, he saw the ghostly figures of two little girls pretending to sip tea. Startled, he stopped and watched. The loudness of the music quieted down some and he heard their whispers again.
