In the center of Plaza Park was this huge circular fountain. The pool of the fountain was made of cement with white brick around it, and the floor inside of it was a beautiful light blue tile. The fountain statue itself looked like smooth steel and in the shape of a dolphin. I enjoyed sitting near this fountain just so that I could hear the the sound of flowing water within a busy city. That was until that night. The night when John and I took a romantic walk to talk things over. We were planning to renew our vows and then go on another honeymoon. He even turned on his cell phone player to our favorite song, “All For Love” and we danced and danced. It was a night that I will never forget.
When the song changed, John left my arms and jumped up onto the ledge of the fountain pool. He showed his silly side and danced as if he was a Broadway performer like Gene Kelly. That was why I fell in love with him in the first place after all. And it was his humor, talent and spontaneity that kept me going too…
But then it happened. It was almost midnight when I saw something strange creep out from behind the dolphin. Even with the park lights I couldn’t tell exactly what it was. I screamed and pointed. But when John turned around the snarling creature grabbed him by the head and ripped it off. I screamed again and ran as fast as I could. I stopped only once to look back. That was when I saw the creature devouring Johns internal organs. I cried and ran until I couldn’t run any more.
I found a pay phone and called my best friend Amber. She came and picked me up and took me to the police station. I didn’t know if anyone would believe my story. After all, it sounded so much like an unrealistic horror movie. That was what I thought anyway. Amber tried to comfort me while we waited to talk to the sheriff. When he walked over to us I couldn’t help but cry again. He politely handed me a box a tissues.
After I told the sheriff what had happened to John, they received a few more phone calls from others who had reported seeing a strange looking creature in Plaza Park. The sheriff sent a couple of deputies down to the park to check it out. It wasn't long before they called and reported back what they had found. I heard the sheriff say that the fountain was full of blood and scattered body parts. I figured that it would be because of the vicious attack the creature did to John.
The sheriff came out of his office and said that he was sorry for my loss. I guess he believed my story now. I asked him if anyone else had been hurt and he said that he didn’t know much else at the moment. I could only imagine the terror that John must have felt when he saw what was behind him. The creature was dark in color and had a fluid-like movement. It was almost like it could change it’s shape, or something like that. All I know is that I had never seen anything like it.
When the sheriff said that I could go home, Amber drove me there. I didn’t feel much like being alone so I gathered a few items and went with Amber to her place. After we had a bite to eat, I stretched out on her sofa and watched some television. I was hoping that it would take my mind off of what had happened. I heard Amber say something to me but then I must have fell into a deep sleep. The next thing I knew was, Amber had shaken me to wake me up.
She told me that I was calling out John’s name as if I were looking for him. Then she asked me what else I saw in my dream because I screamed. Once I was more awake I thought about my dream. I remember seeing john again as he danced on the fountain edge. But when he turned and looked at me, I saw the fear in his eyes. He yelled at me and told me that I was evil. But why would John say that to me unless.
Just then, the sheriff knocked on Amber’s front door. She answered it and invited him inside. I didn’t know what was going on. The sheriff whispered something to Amber and then she glanced back at me as I sat on the sofa. The sheriff then walked into the living room and asked me to go back to the station with him. I of course asked him why. When I stood up and walked over to him, he hand-cuffed me and proceeded to tell me.
The sheriff said that they had an eye witness of the attack. He said the eye witness told him that they saw me change into some horrible creature. I was shocked that someone else was there, and it angered me. I told the sheriff that it was a lie. Then, all of a sudden I felt my body heat up and my skin slowly expand. My fingers grew longer and I began to shake. The hand-cuffs broke apart and fell to the floor. Amber screamed and the sheriff stepped back as I grew two feet taller then him. I could feel my skin all over my body stretch and my fingernails became razor sharp. I really wish that people would stop making me mad. I don’t necessarily like hurting people but I have to survive.
Unfortunately, the deputy walked into the room and drew his gun. He shot at me but missed. I had to react and quickly darted at him. I took him down within seconds. The sheriff drew his gun and shot me in the back. I fell to the floor in pain. My long tail swung and knocked over the coffee table. The sheriff then grabbed a lamp cord and tied my arms behind my back. My best friend Amber couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw what my anger turns me into. I was taken to the infirmary and the doctor there removed the bullet from my skin. My wound healed rather quickly which surprised them all. But that’s what happens when you’re part lizard.
So here I sit now, locked up like some animal in a cage. It is funny though how some people will believe some stories you tell them. Even if it is a bit far fetched. I would have gotten away with my husbands murder too if that eye witness wasn’t lurking around. Just remember one thing, don’t get in my way and don’t piss me off and we’ll get along just fine.
