Once the elders found out what the humans had been doing with the forest, some didn’t show much concern. But then other’s such as Otto, Pa, Drew, Varn, and Wanda did. When Pa got home and told Ma how the meeting went she was disgusted. Ma was surprised to hear how some of the elders didn’t take this possible intrusion serious. Pa explained to her that maybe once the seekers get back with more information, the rest of the elders will understand the seriousness of it.
As for now, Pa told Ma that Drew was talking to Niko and the others now. He said that the seekers will head out in the morning to two different areas and observe the humans activity. Then they will return the next day with more detailed information to share with them. Ma accepted Pa’s explanation, but she didn’t want to accept the ignorance that some of the elders seemed to portray today.
As the evening approached, Tia finished up at the school area and then walked Olivia and Jack home. Their cousin Bo tagged along hoping to have dinner with them tonight. Bo didn’t care for the way his mother cooked and he enjoyed spending time with his cousins.
“Tia, do you think that we will have to move?” Jack looked up at her.
Bo looked at Tia to see how she would answer that but he spoke up instead, “listen Jack, this close community has made this our home for centuries now, and if for some reason we need to move, we will still be a close community wherever we go.”
Jack looked at Tia, “Is that true Tia?”
“Yes, it’s true. Don’t you worry about it. Pa will see that we’re taken care of,” Tia smiled at Jack and Olivia.
Tia changed the subject and talked about the different trees along the way. She wanted to see how well the young ones were listening in class today.
Jack pointed to one of the berry trees and yelled, “Boysenberry.”
“That’s right Jack,” Tia smiled.
Olivia looked around and pointed to the yellow flowered bush, “that’s a witch… Witch Hazel bush.”
“Very good Olivia,” Tia smiled.
