The warm sun shined down in the area of the woods where the elders usually have their meetings. Pa and Drew were the first one’s to arrive with Ma’s brother Lou shortly after. It wasn’t until five minutes later that the rest of the elders showed up.
“So, what’s so important that I had to leave my nephew’s game to hike all the way out here?” Benjamin Fishwick barked.
Pa ignored Benjamin’s rudeness and politely went on to tell the rest of the elder’s what Tia witnessed at the edge of the forest. He pointed out that this time last year, the human building projects were still thousands of miles away. But now according to Tia, they are only hundreds of miles away.
“So, we’ll send out a seeker to get accurate information and take it from there,” Benjamin grumbled.
“But we need to…
Drew touched his brother’s arm, “I think what my brother was going to say is that sending a seeker out is a good idea but we have to face the facts that the humans are moving in closer and we might lose our homes if we don’t do something about it.”
“Yes, you’re right Drew, we can’t keep hoping that this isn’t going to happen. We must make plans,” Otto Fishwick, the oldest elder said.
Otto took over the meeting and instructed Benjamin to send out two seekers to see how fast the humans are moving and about how much time they have. He also mentioned sitting down with Pa, Drew, and Niko Dollarweed in the next couple of days to talk about strategies. Whatever they could come up with to hopefully save the forest and their homes would be greatly appreciated. The meeting was done in about twenty minutes since they needed more precise information. But before they left for the village, Otto looked up and around at the beauty of the forest and said…
“I would really hate to see all of this demolished.”
“Here here,” Pa and a few others agreed.
As the rest of the elder’s walked ahead, Pa and Drew walked along and talked with Otto. Since Otto is the oldest, being close to 100 years old, he doesn’t leave home very often. And even though Otto is a Fishwick, and Pa and Drew are Dollarweed’s, they still have great respect for their leader. Because this was an unscheduled meeting, it gave Pa and Drew the chance to catch up with Otto on their journey back to the village. He told them that his daughter Sunshine has been helping him around his home and keeping him company. He also said that his other daughter is expecting another child soon and he is very proud.
