The next day was focused on keeping things somewhat normal for the young fairies of the community. The elders understood that change was going to come soon but until then, getting back to regular life was a must. Tia went on and taught her class about the enjoyment of learning new things and new places. Pa and Ma looked around their huts and decided what they felt they could leave behind. And Drew and Fiona worked on jarring up a lot of their crops to start over with.
Many of the other fairies also mentally and physically prepared for the move, while the two seekers, Nock and Rum, were out searching for this huge forest they heard about. Niko had other plans which he convinced some of his friends to join him with. He felt like he owed it to their now dead leader to save the community that he had built. Niko informed his friends that they will hike out to the edge of the forest and wait until the humans went home. Then, they will go to the construction site and set fire to all the buildings. He believed that this would put a hold on the building out there.
“But Niko, what if this doesn’t work? We will be in big trouble with the elders,” Niko’s friend Loto said.
“This will work. If humans can’t keep the new homes that they built then they won’t continue taking our forest down to build more.”
Niko looked at his group of friends as they nodded and agreed with him. The tension rose though as they thought about and discussed the possibility of losing their own homes. This was not an option for them and they were set on doing away with the humans around their forest.
“So, Loto and Turk, gather the items that we need to do this and we will head out in a little while. Morrow, you will cover for us if anyone asks where we are. And Goran, you will hold the position of security here while we are gone,” Niko instructed.
“What should I say if Coss or Drew ask where you are?” Morrow asked.
Niko thought for a moment, “tell them that I decided to look for a better forest on my own. That way they will think that we are ready to move as well.”
“Okay Niko, don’t you worry, I’ve got your back,” Morrow smiled.
Loto and Turk went and got the supplies that they need to start the fires, while Niko gathered up other supplies for the trip out there. At the school yard though, Bo noticed Loto walking by and thought that was strange. What is Loto doing on this end of the village, he’s never over here, Bo thought.
Since Tia was busy with the other students, Bo quietly left the school yard and followed Loto. They walked down the path to one of the huts that holds some tools and torch making supplies. Bo stood behind a big oak tree and watched as Loto went inside. Bo ran over to the window and saw Loto as he put some flint into his pocket. He also grabbed some packs of kindling and stuffed them into his burlap sack. I wonder what he’s up to, Bo thought.
