I sat at the waters edge under the branches of a Cypress tree.
I dosed off just for a moment it seemed until I realized that it was now dark.
The crickets chirped and the frogs croaked until I saw the fog.
A muggy breeze covered me and it felt as if someone was near.
I glanced around in the now quiet moon lit night but saw no one.
Not until a glow of white light suddenly appeared over the lake.
The light grew as it got closer to the shore.
It looked like a lady in a long white dress, but was it?
I quickly stood up and watched as it moved nearer to me.
The dark silence of the night felt creepy and the muggy mist once again hugged me.
I was drawn to the nearly transparent figure though that floated above the water.
As she got closer she extended her arm as if she wanted something.
Do I dare step into the water, for I can not swim.
But the power of this white figure quickly lifted me and pulled me toward her.
I could not stop myself.
She took me out into the middle of the lake with her.
The place that I feared most of my life.
We then stopped.
She reached out for my arm and grabbed me.
Down and down she pulled me deep into the dark water.
I was frightened but unharmed.
Through her touch I saw and felt the pain she went through.
And now I know why she lives in the lake…
I am back to the surface of the water and suddenly know how to swim.
I swam back to shore.
Out of breath I laid quietly on the ground.
The sounds of the crickets and frogs I heard once again.
This felt like a dream but I knew that it wasn't.
I must tell the truth as to what happened to Miss Delilah.
The End
I hope that you enjoyed this short story/poem. I came up with while watching a couple different thrillers on my days off. Imagination is a fun and yet sometimes spooky thing to have.
I'm glad to read that the living stayed living. It is really great how you make sure we can feel and hear the surroundings of your writings.
