Farmer Joe’s granddaughter Gracie arrived at the farm around ten in the morning on Valentine’s day. She brought her grandparents a Valentine card and some yummy candy. What they didn’t expect was also some treats for Momma and the kittens. Joe took Gracie outside to find Momma and the kittens when Gracie saw the swing that her grandpa put up.
Gracie handed grandpa Joe the treats for the kittens and then ran over to the swing. This of course made Joe happy to see that his granddaughter liked the swing. As Gracie hopped up onto the swing, Shrimp and Tiger walked out of the barn. They heard Gracie laughing as Joe gently pushed her.
“Hey look, Gracie is here,” Shrimp said to Tiger.
As Shrimp and Tiger walked toward Joe and his granddaughter, Gracie saw them.
“There they are Grandpa,” Gracie pointed to the kittens.
Joe stopped pushing Gracie so that she could stop and hop off. Shrimp walked up to Gracie and rubbed on her hand when she reached out to pet her. Tiger took his time walking over to them. He was still a little skittish around people he doesn’t see very often.
“Look what I have for you two and your momma,” Gracie took the bag of treats from her grandpa.
Gracie struggled to open the package so her grandpa Joe helped her with it. He poured a few treats into her hands so that she could feed them to the kittens.
Gracie held out her left hand for Shrimp, “Happy Valentine Shrimp.”
Shrimp sniffed the treats in Gracie’s hand and then gobbled them up. Mmm, these are good, Shrimp thought.
Tiger watched what was going on and carefully walked over to Gracie.
“Come on Tiger, here you go,” Gracie held out her hand again with a few more treats on it.
Tiger sniffed her hand and then the treats but didn’t take them from her. Gracie looked up at her Grandpa.
“He might be scared to take them from you sweetheart, so why don’t we take the rest of these into the barn by their bowls,” Joe said.
“Okay, come on Tiger, let’s go to your bowl,” Gracie said.
Joe walked with Gracie to the barn and Shrimp and Tiger followed them. As Joe showed Gracie where to put the treats, Shrimp and Tiger ran over to their bowls.
“Here you go Tiger,” Gracie dropped the treats into the big bowl.
Even Momma walked over to see what was going on by the bowls.
“Hi Momma, here are some Valentine treats for you,” Gracie poured some from the bag.
Gracie stood there and smiled while she watched Momma and the kittens enjoy their treats. When they were done, Shrimp and Momma looked at Gracie and nodded as if they said thank you. Tiger slowly walked over to Gracie and rubbed on her legs before he walked away.
“Did you see that Grandpa? I think he likes me now,” Gracie said with a big smile.
“Yes, it sure looks like it. Shall we go in the house now?” Joe said.
Gracie and Joe left the barn and went back into the house. Shrimp hopped around her Momma with excitement.
“She’s such a nice little girl isn’t she?” Shrimp said.
“Yes she is. Farmer Joe has taught her well,” Momma said.
“I like her too, those were good treats,” Tiger said as he trotted after Shrimp.
Tiger and Shrimp learned that even though they were given the treats, it made Gracie happy to see that they appreciated them. Just like Joe was happy that Gracie appreciated the swing that he put up for her. Showing love can be done in various ways, you just have to put your heart into it.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.
